2014 – The year of the UIC

Work is under way for one of the biggest changes to HLMSW with the introduction of the Universal Instrumentation Code in 2014. This will provide a large number of advantages over the current systems for categorising your instrumental holdings with the greatest step forward being the ability to share this data with other HLMSW and Zinfonia users. We are currently building a huge database of part names so that that the changeover will be as painless as possible and you will be able to use the existing system alongside the UIC to ease the transition. If you are interested, a paper that describes the UIC is some detail will be published in next volume of Music Reference Services Quarterly (MRSQ) due in the next few weeks (more on this when it is available).

Before this happens in the next few weeks, there will be a new version of HLMSW that has a few important changes including:

  • Access the new Zinfonia Quote and Pre-Payment facility – to allow you to quote and invoice any request from Zinfonia directly
  • New Code for the generation of unique numbers  – this will completely eradicate the possibility of 2 users receiving the same number and will allow the numeric sequences of invoices and credits for different companies to overlap.

Lots more to come.
